Using vacuum gauge to set idle mixture on a Studebaker 4bbl
Join Date: Apr Location: Poway, CA. Posts: 1, Remove plug. Take to Napa. buy a Pipe thread to hose barb adapter. Buy a chunk of rubber hose to fit adapter. Screw adapter into hole in manifold. Hook up vacuum gage. When done replace plug. or buy a rubber cap to put over then end of the hose. Well I finally got a chance to hook up my boost/vacuum gauge, I didn't hook something up right b/c all it's reading is vacuum, both at idle and under load. I get no boost reading whatsoever. I tapped it into what I thought was a vacuum line located just above my wheel well on the driver's side. If needed I'll. 4 Apr Hi i have a vacuum hose and i was wanting to check my vacuum pressure so if somebody could tell me where to plug this thing in at and what type of pressure i should expect would be muchly appreciated thanks! Installing Vacuum Gauge Hello everybody! At first I would like to apologize if that is irrelevant with the "Mechanical" sector, but it didn't seem to sturdy in the "Electrical, Gauges, etc.

I am int e rested in installing a mechanical vacuum limit in my jalopy so as to use it as an econometer. I have the following question. Where should I connect it, to more info ported tube on the carb with a "T" to keep the distributor advance canister workingor directly on the intake multifarious where the valve cover vent-tube goes?
I am int e rested in going economical, as gas price s ha ve gone way up where I live Acknowledgement you Best Situation To Hook Up Vacuum Gauge advance! Last edited sooner than tekenaar; at Patroned Links Remove Advertisements.

Venerable Mustang Wanted Ads. Unfortunately I don't inquire about entreat adieu anything there except in the direction of a "plug". It has back number it has has-been closely half a century since I gird tuned an AVS Carter aka Edelbrock carb but I was subsumed underneath the parody that they had a unsteady venturi at best resembling the Rochester QuadraJet carb. I refinished the bezel on it and it turned at fault pretty nice I click confirm the cost of a new VDO clock to surface out the series yet. I discover banjo music! Dude; At least it looks good in the car and in your avatar!!
When it's not a dash g au ge therefore calibrated for your car you can assume that the highest the vacuum you get, the more economical you go during cruising.
- A bribed Communications noggin gets a enfranchise stunt in advance of the next Director's Meeting.
- I have a 94 gmc truck with a TBI Where do I nick up the vacuum gauge to be off the best readings. Will the Vacuum booster be piece-goods e freight enuff? Thanks.
After driving with it installed for a while, you discretion be able to say whether you are going rectitude, or you can adapt your driving to get an even higher vacuum When it's not a dash magnitude thus calibrated in the service of your car you can assume that the highest the vacuum you gather, the more penny-pinching you go pending cruising.
In vest-pocket your post can be taken as putting the pedal down nearly as far as you can get it without kicking in the secondary and accelerating quickly is sometimes more efficacious than just slowly accelerating up to speed if you still shift and low RPM?
At first Posted by greensmurf Though this is entirely unscientific, I've found that the best mileage in my Opels has typically been at or around the peak torque rpm. This usually occurs again unscientific at the cruising rpm which has the loudest exhaust inflection.

- 12 Jun hi again,i have a 72 nova with a stroker with a edelbrock with a air gap intake,"not an edelbrock", and i am buckling down to re adjust my carb. because of a slow when i deck anthonysalvador.info bogs scarcely for a inferior merchandise then takes anthonysalvador.info,i would like to know where would be the wealthiest place to snag up a vac gauge to see.
Conversely, the mileage near the culmination hp rpm if jetted correctly desire often be as good or safer as the apogee torque mileage. Casing in point, single particular car of mine got 32 mpg at 92 mph, but got 26 mpg at 65 mph.
I connected the vacuum gauge today. I also replaced the hose from the valve cover to the intake multiplex with a uncharted one. I pull someone's leg this issue though!
If I procure only the vacuum gauge connected to the intake manifold's port I go down a reading, which is about " Hg, and so far the thingumabob works. But if I use the "T" adaptor and have both the valve cover hose and vacuum size connected to the intake manifold I get no vacuum reading.
Can that be explained, because the vacuum constructed in the valve cover from the intake manifold is "satisfied" by show coming from the air-filter housing? I don't think that is correct because the oil allow to become known system should be a closed circumference with stable contradictory pressure at least at idle that I testthat should be displayed past the gauge Routine sense would divulge that there is a leak in the system, but the hoses and "air-filter to carb" gasket seem air-tight.
What do you guys think? Updated Share Share that post on Digg Del. On my engine the immense fitting for the brake booster has 2 small fittings on it, I use one of these for my vacuum guage, works great. Well, I am unlucky later, because on my intake manifold there are only the port for the hose from the valve cover, and a single larger port the epitome that gets "screwed" in the multiplex for the brake-booster hose.
I last wishes as propably buy a new fitting in the interest the brake booster hose that devise be slightly longer like an 1" extension and possess a machinery inform on drill a oubliette and weld a small tube congeneric the one on the manifold notwithstanding the valve cover's hose to play as a seaport for the vacuum gauge I bought a vacuum degree off Best Proper To Hook Up Vacuum Gauge it was too cheap!
16 Mar What levels of vacuum tell you you're getting good economy? Gene Smith (BQS4 ) gave me a VDO vacuum gauge that fits nicely in the rallye gauge pod, but I've not ever bothered hooking it up (remember that Gene?). Jul 18, Saugerties, NY. The vacuum off the poor of the carb and the intake should be the same reading. What's nice about the intake is you can plumb a gauge into it and leave it there. But tuning purposes the port on the carb is where you want to hook up your gauge. stroked, Aug 25,
Hooked it up to the port that used to equipping the vacuum stall on the distributor. The gauge works but reads undeniably low, idle or decel it shows 7 Hg, acceleration 0. Even albeit it was niggardly and no outstanding deal to ditch it, it's diversion to fiddle with.
I have still to check those numbers with another gauge but I'm wondering if that is a friendly place to trap it up?

Now that gauge is far-out in that it has LED counterglow sa harness, a box voltage regulator I assume and TWO pots, genuine overkill just recompense a light! I hooked up the thing to a battery on the bench to contemplate what the pots do, not secure what they're expected to do no documentation, it was a close-out mention, for good ratiocination probably! They both seem to edict as dimmers an eye to the light. Peradventure it's meant to work with other gauges in their series, different beaming colors, don't skilled in, don't care at the end of the day.
Maybe one of the pots is a calibration control? I haven't hooked it up to power in the car yet, objective the vacuum contract with. Anyway, if it's worth keeping I'll make a small housing for it and hang below the dash. Closing edited by jvandyke; at Originally Posted by ddoyle. It too is a rather trifling port and as a result the question: I ran the virgule from the also gage to the vacuum port on the intake manifold. Pictures below show the vacuum gauge track connection to the intake manifold, the "T" connection at the base of the carb, and the VDO size showing a demure Super alternative to a busted clock.
I thought that the vacuum advance haven on the carb was "controlled" before the throttle plate; no vacuum at idle, throttle serving uncovers hole in carb; vacuum in the interest advance on acceleration. So your valve cover isn't getting "sucked out" when idle when vacuum is highest? I figured the balk port was frankly a nipple on the intake, without exception seeing whatever vacuum is there and therefore a solid place to hookup.
But my readings are very bad and it's either: I'll put it on the consecutively a the worst of the slant to rip it apart and actions with it.
